Playing Ball at the Highest Court in the Land

A couple of years ago I was an overnight guest of General William Suter, recently retired as Clerk of the U. S. Supreme Court. During my visit I got the opportunity to take the traditional tour of the U. S. Supreme Court where General Suter was “on stage” at virtually every Supreme Court hearing for over 20 years. What was fun was the backstage tour to the real “highest court.” The highest court is actually a basketball “court” directly atop the U. S. Supreme Court. The court is available to the Supreme Court Justices (Justice Ginsburg holds an aerobics class there), law clerks and other employees at the Supreme Court. By the way, the basketball court is not to be used when court is in session. I wonder why…
